The Mario Kart-themed TAG Heuer watch and the Super Mario collab TAG Heuer smartwatch are cool timepieces that let show you fandom but let’s get real. Not everyone can afford to drop thousands for a pair of timepieces. Thankfully, for fans of Super Mario Bros., there is this: G-Shock x Super Mario Bros. DW5600SMB-4 Watch.
Nope. We did not make that up. G-Shock x Super Mario Bros. DW5600SMB-4 Watch is real and it can be yours for just US$150. Both G-Shock and Super Mario are pop culture icons of the 80s that have quite a following and so the collaboration seems like a natural thing to do for both brands.
As far as the timepiece goes, it is not quite in-your-face Super Mario; but it does have a whimsical design with playful details that brings out the nostalgic theme. It has got a case in Mario red with gold accents that recall Mario’s precious loot, the coins (which he risked head trauma to collect), and a dial in the background blue of the game’s overworld stages.
Further on the dial are pixelated text, as it should be, and a glass-printed image of the Koopa Troopa shell – also pixelated. When turning on the backlight, the classic Mario – complete with “1UP” next to him – is displayed. Completing the Super Mario Bros. is a band featuring a camo pattern formed by multiple pixelated Marios and a gold-color underside.
This highly collectible, limited edition G-Shock timepiece is based on the square DW-5600 silhouette and hence, expect the same toughness, namely, shock resistance, along with 200-meter water resistance, EL backlight with a flash alert, multi-function alarm, stopwatch (24 Hr), countdown timer (60 min), and 12/24-Hour time formats.
