What are the odds that luxury smartwatch users are into Nintendo’s Super Mario? Perhaps, the odds is quite high. How else do explain this: the TAG Heuer x Super Mario Connected Smartwatch?
To mark the beginning of a long-term collab between TAG Heuer and Nintendo, the limited-edition TAG Heuer x Super Mario Connected Smartwatch has been announced, featuring Nintendo’s most famous property, Mario.
As expected from such collaborations, Mario has taken over the watch’s UI as well as the cosmetics of the luxury smart timepiece. Honestly, I never see this coming, but it is here anyways.
On the software front, Mario will be there to encourage you to get out and about, and step up your physical activity. You will be rewarded with Mario dial animation on the dial face whenever a goal is achieved for the day.
Four Super Mario theme watch faces come pre-installed in the watch, one of which is especially nostalgic, featuring 1985 version Super Mario Bros. with Mario, in pixelated style graphics.
Hardware’s aesthetic, on the other hand, is a little more subtle. Perhaps, a little too subtle, IMHO. You can expect subtle reference to the Mushroom Kingdom hero, like Super Mario red bezel graduation, push buttons and crown logo on the new-look steel case.
The bezel further features three iconic symbols at the three, six and nine o’clock positions.
Other hints of Mario’s involvement include M symbol of Mario is engraved on the strap buckles and on the crown, a screw-down case back engraved with “TAG Heuer x Super Mario Limited Edition”, and two novel Mario color interchangeable straps: black leather on red rubber and a matching red perforated rubber.
Rounding up the package is a special packaging design and a travel case in Super Mario red. As for the hard-spec, it is basically the TAG Heuer Connected which features a 45 mm case, water resistance to 5 ATM, 430 mAh all-day battery, and sensors like heart rate monitor, compass, accelerometer, et cetera.
Limited to 2,000 pieces, the TAG Heuer x Super Mario Connected Smartwatch is available at select TAG Heuer boutiques and on tagheuer.com in select regions starting July 15, 2021. Price is not disclosed with the official press release. But we will find out soon enough.
