Guys, we’re too late. The CASIO Table Clock DQD-851J-8JF is sold out. Not that you could’ve bought it outside of Japan anyway, but like the CUPRA DarkRebel, its existence simply needs to be known. So, what’s so special about this clock? Well, honestly, not much—unless you’re into giant versions of wristwatches.
Basically, it’s Casio’s classic A158WA digital watch but blown up to ridiculous proportions—or more than 3x to be exact—and turned into a table clock. The novelty factor is through the roof, especially for die-hard Casio fans.
For context, the original A158WA’s stainless steel case measures 36.8 x 33.2 x 8.2 mm. Meanwhile, its tabletop counterpart? A whopping 102 x 117 x 48 mm. And no, it doesn’t come with a strap because, well, it’s for your table. Besides, who’s lugging a 185g electronic device around anyway? Oh, wait… never mind.
That said, the similarities to the classic Casio stop at the design and the fact it tells time. Sadly, it doesn’t have a stopwatch (which would be a weird feature for a table clock anyway), but it does gain some handy upgrades, like a thermometer, humidity sensor, and snooze button. It’s not stainless steel, which is a bit of a letdown, because who wouldn’t want a solid chunk of metal on their desk? Instead, it’s made of resin. Functional, but not as cool.
The clock also boasts precise timekeeping, thanks to radio-controlled synchronization in Japan. Plus, it comes with some other features worth mentioning: an electronic sound alarm with five adjustable levels, a built-in LED light with an afterglow function, a signal reception indicator, a full calendar, and the option for a 12/24-hour display.
When it was still available, this oversized slice of Casio nostalgia sold for a reasonable 4,378 yen [JP], or around US$29.
