If you are a field worker, a construction worker, or basically someone who always put your phone at risks, Cat Phones will have you covered and with the new Cat S61, it will even have tradesmen covered too – thanks to the enhanced FLIR thermal imaging, built-in laser assisted measuring and indoor air quality sensor. I know it is hard to believe, but the new S61 does indeed carry those features as standard and that kind of make it a tool. A Mil-spec 810G, IP68 rated construction with aluminum reinforced die-cast frame provides it with the survivability, including dropping from 1.8 meters and immersing in water of up to 3 meters deep for up to an hour each time.
In addition, the device is outfitted with a live-streaming capable Lepton FLIR thermal camera that can pick up heat signature ranging from -20oC to 400oC, a laser assisted area and distance measurement of up to 10 meters, as well as a VOC indoor air quality meter that can also let you in on the humidity. It will not cover your entire tool box, obviously, but I imagine it will come in handy when you need to an impromptu gauge of heat signature, measure something.
Other smartphone specifications include a glove/wet fingers-friendly 5.2-inch FHD bright display optimized for outdoor use, Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chip with 2.2 GHz octacore processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage, microSD expansion slot, a high capacity 4,500 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support, a 16MP main camera and a 8MP front-facing camera. Cat S61 will ship with Android Oreo and it will be eligible for upgrade to Android P when it becomes available.
The Cat S61 is set to hit select retailers and operators worldwide in Q2 2018 and carries with it a MSRP of £799/€899 (which works out to be around US$1,111). Check out the specification summary after another look at the device.
