Planex mini phone lets you call from a Tablet, less the silliness

most 3G-enabled tablets can make or receive phone calls but we don’t do that because it looks totally silly to stick a 10 inch glass on your cheek. alternatively, you could use a wired mic/earpiece combo. Planex‘s Bluetooth Phone, BT-Phone01 [JP], is a more elegant solution that will liberate you from this awkward situation.
[ad#Google Adsense-text-468×60]

running on Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, this remote-control like device enables user to make or receive calls while your huge tablet hides away in your bag. the BT-Phone01 is compatible with all Bluetooth devices, including Android Tablets and it also works with PC or Mac with any VOIP software. apparently, it works with Playstation 3 too. the latter sounds a little redundant to me. in any case, we certainly welcome any gadgets that will makes us looks less silly when using them.

the BT-Phone01 sports a organic EL display with a resolution of 128 x 64 pixels and has built-in 200 mAh battery that gives it a maximum of 6 hours of talk time and a 100 hours of standby time. a full charge takes 120 minutes via the supplied USB cable.

the Planex Bluetooth Mini Phone is available in black or white and has a retail price of ¥5,250 (about US$62).

Huawei concept phone reminisces of the Nokia banana phone

remember the Nokia 8110 mobile phone? which also was affectionately known as the ‘Banana’ phone due to its curve profile and further made famous by the movie ‘Matrix’? good. you remember it, don’t you? that was the phone i would vote as my all time favorite, until now when the concept Huawei Leaf appears before my eyes. aesthetically, it is significantly different from the 8110 but somehow the profile reminisces of the banana phone. commissioned by Huawei, Claesson Koivisto Rune designed this minimalist styled phone with quite a visual impact. though keypads are so passe but i think the phone still looks great. i love the folded side profile but do we need to have a bulked up front profile? it looks just plain weird and toy-like. if it has a straight front profile, it would be perfect. good thing that it is a concept and there’s a chance to make amends but would they?

Gresso presents LUXOR WORLD TIME GOLD mobile phone

Gresso Luxor World Time Gold 544x588px
(credit: Gresso) Gresso Luxor World Time Gold | US$30,000.00 |

even though i favor smartphones over traditional mobile phones, i do appreciate a well crafted piece of mobile phone. especially one that’s exquisitely crafted and put together. joining Gresso luxurious line of mobile phones is the Gresso Luxor World Time Gold, a luxuriously crafted mobile phone for the rich folks who never got around using a smartphone (or perhaps, those who hate being out-smarted by a smartphone). aside from its striking 18K gold body, the Luxor World Time has a specially designed six independent clocks that took up just 2 millimeters of depth of the 12 millimeters thick phone.

the clocks display time of the five major business centers in the world, namely, New York, Tokyo, Paris, London and Moscow. the sixth time is customizable to the user’s liking. the main screen is of two-sided sapphire crystal treated with antireflective coating and the back panel features a luxurious black Italian leather. simply dazzling. among the sea of touchscreen phones, isn’t it nice to see the traditional key pad again? well, not just any key pad. each key is made of an unique durable crystal sapphire, hand polished with diamond tools and the numbers and alphabets laser engraved.

needless to say, such intricate piece of art does not come cheap. the Gresso Luxor World Time Gold has a hefty price tag of $30,000 and is available from either Gresso official dealers or Gresso web store. fortunately, smartphone is still the communication device of choice for me, else i wouldn’t have a clue how to find that kind money for such a beautiful phone.

Mobiado unveiled CPT002 Aston Martin Concept Phone

Mobiado CTP002 Aston Martin Concept Phone 544x448px
(credit: Mobiado) Mobiado CPT002 Aston Martin Concept Phone | US$tbc(concept) |

during last week’s BASELWORLD 2011, Mobiado announced an exciting concept phone in collaboration with supercar maker Aston Martin, dubbed the CPT002. the CTP002 is not just a phone, it is also the key to your Aston Martin where it will automatically unlock the door as you approach the car. while in the car, the phone stays connected via your car display, so your phone can remain in your pocket.

combining with the car’s GPS, the CTP002 aims to provide a whole new level of social networking experience. for example, the car display will show your current location, your friends’ location and nearby venues via the social network, Foursquare. these information will help user to better plan a night out, right down to where to park their precious vehicle. i guess, for a car like Aston Martin, valet parking will be the preferred form of parking – so that you can do your throw the key to the valet thing or wait, you won’t have a key!

the integrated cameras (yes, despite its transparency it will have cameras) is able to set to update your status periodically to Facebook and Twitter with images, videos and information of landmarks along your road trips in real time. or perhaps, updates on your racing progress during one of those track days. in the event of an unfortunate accident, the airbag system of your vehicle will receive accelerometer information from the phone. these information allows a more responsive control over safety deployments such as airbag sequence, timing and seatbelt stiffening.

the CTP002 design embodies the essence of what most of us have perceived about the future of communication devices: the center piece of the CTP002 is a solid sapphire crystal, see-through capacitive touchscreen while the sides are crafted from platinum where it will house the battery, electronics and SIM card.

Gresso custom limited edition iPhone 4 for charming ladies

Gresso Black Diamonds iPhone 4 for Lady 544x388px
(image credit: Gresso) Gresso custom limited edition Black Diamonds iPhone 4 | US$tbc |

there are hundreds of ways to make an already expensive iPhone 4 even more expensive. giving it an all out gold treatment is one way but that’s so yesterday. there is a more classy way, like adorning it with white and black diamonds over a classy 200-year-old African Blackwood. if the aforementioned statement tickles your senses, then the new Gresso iPhone 4 Black Diamonds for Lady is the phone for you. however, if you are not a lady, i’m sure the classy diamonds and wood combo won’t make you any less manly.

in place of the fragile glass panel, this Gresso item has a wooden panel crafted out of a 200-year-old African Blackwood and encrusted with 6-carats black diamonds, 13-carats white diamonds, and topped with 18-carats pink gold and platinum precious metals. the edge is of platinum, adorned with black diamonds and the ‘home’ button is decorated with 2-carats black diamond framed inside a cluster of white diamonds and pink gold. beautiful isn’t? we love the diamonds and blackwood combo. it gives a sense of classiness without the being too ostentatious.

unfortunately, there are now words on how much the custom limited edition Gresso iPhone 4 Black Diamonds for Lady will cost, however it is safe to assume that it would cost a bomb. but hey, it is totally gorgeous, ain’t it?

Lapdock for Motorola ATRIX: is it a netbook or laptop or?

Lapdock for Motorola ATRIX main 544x408px
(image credit: Motorola) Lapdock for Motorola ATRIX | about US$500.00 |

Motorola ATRIX 4G is said to be the world’s most powerful smartphone and winner of multiple awards at the CES 2011. that said, we believe most of us are already aware of its features and specifications. however, we are not focusing on ATRIX 4G handset, instead we are looking at its WEBTOP functionality, specifically the accessory that extends the power of this smartphone, so to speak. the accessory in focus is the Lapdock for Motorola ATRIX which, as the name suggests, is a netbook (sort of) but strange as it is, the lapdock runs off the processing power from the ATRIX 4G smartphone. the lapdock has a full keyboard and a trackpad just like a full-fledge netbook.

when the ATRIX is docked to the lapdock, user can access the full ATRIX 4G smartphone functions right from the lapdock, plus a few other features such as desktop Firefox browser, File Manager and Facebook client etc cetera. there’s also a Entertainment Center where user can listen to the music and video that’s on their ATRIX 4G. the lapdock comes with a built-in battery, which also charges the ARTIX 4G when it is docked. the dock itself also comes with charging cable, but it will still charges the ATRIX even the dock isn’t hooked up – provided that the lapdock has enough juice for the task. interesting, though this isn’t a full-fledge netbook but it aims to provide a bigger screen estate for user to work on while they are on the move.

with the cloud computing gaining popularity, i guess your laptop might only need a browser to get most of your work done, hence the ATRIX 4G and lapdock combo could be a viable solution for mobile busy bees. the Lapdock for Motorola ATRIX retails about $500, not exactly cheap as you could have easily get a netbook for that price. however, this combo might saves yourself the trouble of tethering.
