Division Furtive Type 50 Limited Edition Wrist Watch

there are wrist watches and then there are wrist watches that challenged the status quo of watch design, and the latter is what Division Furtive did with the Type 50 wrist watches. it won’t project holographic images, but it is still worthy as a member of the watch of the future which you can own today. limited to 1,000 pieces, each individually numbered, Type 50 features a delightfully large 50mm black PVD-coated case and has gold plated markings on a matte black dial face. at a glance, it looks like an exposed circuit, only cooler, and that’s where the beauty lies. the dial face is not some fancy display; it is home to a unique dual linear LED display that lights up at twist of your wrist, displaying the hours at the top and minutes below.

it has no buttons. instead, it has a 3-axis accelerometer that will allow you access to a host of other features. i know right? it has a fixed dial face, save for the LED cursors, and how could it even have other functionality? well, in fact it has – loads of them. with a simple tap on the front crystal you can easily access to functionality like calendar, chronometer, travel time, moon phase, power reserve indicator and even trigger the flashlight mode that will have all 25 LEDs light up. it runs off an user-serviceable AAA battery which offers up to two years of use and has an internal backup battery to preserve time, date and settings in the even the main battery conks out.

but those are just the appetizers, the main event that impresses us the most is how the time is set (remember it is void of buttons?): it uses light from your smartphone or any web-enabled device to set the time. just hit up the setting page of Division Furtive’s website, dial in the desired setting and place your watch over your device, and it will be done in 10 seconds or so. just like magic. a few other details include mineral crystal front and back, built-in light sensor, and an ultra smooth silicone band with stainless steel buckle, also black PVD-coated.

Division Furtive Type 50 Limited Edition Wrist Watch is currently on Kickstarter where you can pre-order one for $295. as always, the project will only materialized if it reaches its set funding goal and in this case, $49,970 CAD, but the campaign is looking promising. it just went live about half a day ago and it has since pulled in over 70 backers and is 35 percent funded.
