DJI Mavic Air 2 Imaging Drone Announced

Finally, the super portable DJI Mavic Air introduced a little over two years ago has a follow up. Simply dubbed DJI Mavic Air 2, it is as super portable as ever, featuring an aerodynamic design with folding arms.

But with an imaging drone, aesthetic is probably not what most aerial imaging enthusiasts are after. It is the, well, imaging prowess which, in the case of the new DJI Mavic Air 2, is offered by a 1/2-inch CMOS image sensor.

This large sensor is capable of 4K videoing at 60fps and records 48 MP photos, and it further features enhanced HDR for photo, video, panorama. Plus, it does 8K hyper lapse too.

Drone performance gets an upgrade too with a longer flight time of up to 34 minutes, up to 240 minutes of RC battery life, APAS 3.0 obstacle avoidance and up to 10 kilometers 1080p/30fps video transmission, courtesy of the upgraded OcuSync 2.0 transmission technology. The latter also feature auto-switching that switches based on signal strength and anti-interference technology.

This 570g imaging drone also boasts new motors, new electronic speed controllers (ESCs), and GEO geofencing solution.

DJI Mavic Air 2 Imaging Drone has a starting price of US$799. It is already available in China market. Elsewhere, DJI is taking pre-orders with shipping expected to commence sometime mid of May 2020.
