Transparent gadgets scream geekiness which we have said many times. If you are ready to add more transparent gadgets to further boost your geekiness, here’s one for you: Dockcase Explorer Edition M.2 NVMe Smart SSD Enclosure Pro. The most striking thing about this product is, of course, the see-through design that offers you a peek into the electronics that supports M.2 NVMe/SATA SSD.
The see-through design combines with the all-aluminum to offer a sophisticated geeky look. But the Dockcase Explorer Edition M.2 NVMe Smart SSD Enclosure Pro is not all about the look. This little guy is for those whose data is as important as life itself. OK. I may have exaggerated a little here but you get the idea.
It boasts features that will safeguard data. Features like 15W Type-C Auxiliary Power Supply, 10 Seconds Power Loss Protection (PLP), Power Shortage Reminder, SSD Health Status Display (yes, it has a display on it too), and reinforced protection (through a silicone sleeve).
The 15W Type-C Auxiliary Power Supply works in conjunction with Power Shortage Reminder when the latter detects the power of the connected device isn’t enough to drive the high-power SSD, a yellow icon appears on the screen. At this point, you can plug in a hook up another USB-C to give it a boost.
Meanwhile, the longer hardware PLP allows more time for more data to be rescued in the event of a power outage which may affect an SSD’s reliability:
“Abnormal power failure will greatly increase the probability of SSD failure which may cause the loss of the disk partition or disk damage. When Dockcase Pro is disconnected from computer, the capacitor will maintain SSD’s power supply while the controller will inform the SSD that the data in the cache needs to be transferred to the flash, minimizes the probability of SSD failure and file loss due to unexpected power failure.”
And then there’s the SSD Health Status Display that monitors the SSD health in real-time, and when it detects that it is not in good condition, it shows up on the display so you can act on it to prevent data loss. The enclosure can support up to 4 TB of capacity, btw.
You can learn more about the new Dockcase Explorer Edition M.2 NVMe Smart SSD Enclosure Pro on Kickstarter where you can also pledge for a product for US$79 or more. The campaign has met its funding goal and if all goes as planned, the product will start shipping in February 2023.
