Xiaomi has been bashed by many for blatantly copying other brands’ design, but unbeknownst to many, the seven-year-old China startup is also a victim of copycats. But hey, if we can get similar design and possibly, comparable quality for less, why the hell not? The DOOGEE Mix you see here is one such example. While not a blatant copy, it does share some similarity alongside dashes of originality. DOOGEE is one of the hundreds of unknown smartphone makers from China and the DOOGEE Mix is one of their older models that is now available to the U.S. for under 200 bucks. Just imagine that! An edge-to-edge Android smartphone for under $200.

In a world where smartphone prices seem to have skyrocketed uncontrollably to upwards of $1,000, I’d say this is a rare gem. The DOOGEE Mix is, as the model name suggests, a Mi Mix wannabe. Well, kind of. It has a smaller edge-to-edge display coming in at just 5.5-inch that leverages on Samsung’s proven Super AMOLED. The display claims to reflect 90 percent vivid color of Adobe RGB color range while consuming 30 percent less power. Clock work is courtesy of a MediaTek P25 chip with a 2.5 GHz 64-bit octacore processor, backed by 4GB RAM and 64 GB onboard storage. The latter is expandable, via microSD card, up to 128 GB.

Other noteworthy mentions include HD Super AMOLED display, ARM Mali T880 MP2 graphics, 16 MP + 8 MP dual camera setup with Samsung ISOCELL sensor, a wide-angle 5 MP front-facing camera with auto beautify mode, 1080p video recording, a 3,380 mAh battery with Quick Charge support, dual SIM support, Android 7.0 Nougat OS overlaid with DOOGEE UI1.0, 360-degree fingerprint sensor along with the usual suspect of connectivity and sensors, and US-friendly 4G LTE radio, covering 4G FDD-LTE 2/4/5/7/12/17 bands.

Do note that this particular model from DOOGEE that appears on Amazon US website is customized for the U.S. market, but you will need to ascertain if the bands available are supported by your carrier. If you are not picky and ask not for top-specs, the DOOGEE Mix may make for a decent smartphone to gift yourself or maybe even your young ones.
