DOOGEE, the innovative name in rugged smartphones, has revealed a Pro version of its latest dual-screen rugged device, the S98. With the S98 Pro, it drops the second display in favor of a more practical feature: a pro-grade thermal imaging camera from InfiRay that boasts a 25 Hz frame rate and at 256 x 192 resolution.
In addition to delivering smoother images to help accurately detect dampness, elevated temperatures, leaks, blockages, and whatnot, the thermal imaging capability is further bolstered by the Dual Spectrum Fusion algorithm that combines the image from the thermal camera and the main camera to improve the resolution of the actual scene while preserving the thermal image details.
Flanking the InfiRay Pro-grade Thermal Imaging Camera are a 48 MP Sony IM582 primary camera and a 20 MP Sony IMX350 night vision camera. Over at the front, in the 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, is a 16 MP Samsung S5K3P9SP sensor-equipped front-facing camera.
Under the hood, it gets the new MediaTek Helio G96 chip, featuring an octacore processor with a clock speed of up to 2.05 GHz, and it has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage which can be further bumped up to 512 GB via a microSD card.
It has an aluminum alloy frame and TPU material construction that are IP68 and IP69K rated, and it is compliant with MIL-STD-810H standards. All told, the device can survive submerged in water up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) deep and up to 30 minutes each time, it is dustproof to PM2.5, and can sustain drops from 1.5 meters (5 feet).
It is outfitted with a 6,000 mAh battery with 33 W PD Turbo Charging that can fully top the battery in under 2 hours. It also supports 15W wireless charging too, which is pretty impressive given its price point and the fact that it is a ruggedized device.
Other notables include a 15,000 contrast ratio and 500 nits screen, Corning Gorilla Glass, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB-C interface, NFC, a custom button, and support for four satellite navigation, namely, AGPS, BeiDou, Galileo, and GLONASS.
On June 6, 2022, the device will launch at a special world premiere discount of US$329. The price will return to the MSRP of US$439 after June 10, 2022. DOOGEE S98 Pro will be available from AliExpress, DoogeeMall, as well as from Linio.
