Remember the split wheel bicycle by Ukrainian inventor, The Q? Well, clearly this man never settles for the sane because he just took the Just a Normal Bike Math 0.5 x 1 = 1 to the next level.
However, this particular project differs slightly from The Q’s other project. It actually failed. The Q had to go through a couple of iterations before getting it right. Now, that’s true engineering!
On the first version, The Q split a regular wheel with tire three ways and retrofitted it to the rear split wheel bike from the Just a Normal Bike Math 0.5 x 1 = 1 project. It failed.
It looked like the contact with the ground was too little at some point which throws the bike off balance. That’s not to mention having a split wheel for the front makes turning impossible – which when attempted to do so will throw the bike off balance too.
The next solution was to swap the 0.33 + 0.33 + 0.33 to the rear and move the 0.5 + 0.5 the front. The same thing happened. It didn’t work.
Finally, The Q decided to go with a regular front wheel and have the three-way split wheel at the rear. And that works out perfectly. So, the verdict? You can’t have split wheels front and back.
