Do you guys remember Steve McQueen’s 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross? Apparently, the late superstar and motorsports enthusiast had at least two Husqvarna 400 Cross. The Husky you see here, a 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross, is the other one McQueen brought in 1971 through his film production company Solar Productions.
If you missed the opportunity to own the 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross that went on the blog previously, here’s a chance for you to do so in The Quail Auction by Bonhams. This particular Ex-McQueen 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross was sold as lot 664 at the Steve McQueen Estate Auction at Imperial Palace on November 25, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Since then, it has had three owners before it was picked up by the vendor 11 years ago. It is said that the two-wheeler, which was said to be one of Steve McQueen’s favorite off-road motorcycles, is described ‘as last ridden by McQueen’ condition.
The certificate of authenticity, plus the bill of sale issued to the buyer at the 1984 Estate Auction, and the original registration document in the name Solar Productions accompany the lot. To complete the paperwork file, the original 1984 auction lot tag also accompanies the machine.
As far as the specifications go, the Ex-Steve McQueen 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross with frame and engine no. MI3845 is powered by a single-carburetor, 396cc 2-stroke single-cylinder engine producing 40 HP. The motor is paired to a four-speed manual transmission and it further features a telescopic fork and Girling rear suspension, and all-wheel drum brakes.
The Ex-Steve McQueen 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross will go on the block at The Quail Auction on August 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM PT, at Carmel, Quail Lodge & Golf Club. It will be sold without reserve. Bonhams expects it to fetch between US$130,000 and US$180,000.
