All-electric Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 Dragster

A drag racing experience includes extreme noise and the smell of good’ol gas engine exhaust that fills the air. Well, hold on to that memory because, the future of drag racing is going green with major marque, Ford, introducing its very first factory, fully electric dragster prototype.

Produced by Ford Performance (but of course) is the All-electric Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 Dragster, a quarter-mile race car that packs a whopping 1,400 horsepower, over 1,100 ft-lb (1,491.4 Nm) of instant torque.

Ford is expecting this electric beast to wipe the quarter-mile “in low-8-second range” at over 170 mph (274 km/h).

Technically, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 Dragster is the second all-electric Mustang, following the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV.

With the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 Dragster, Ford also pays homage to the original Cobra Jet that first dominated drag strips in the late 1960s.

Ford said the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 will debut later this year at a drag racing event. Between now and then, Ford Performance will continue to test the machine. In the meantime, fans can catch a sneak peek of the machine on MotorTrend On Demand’s Hard Cell this Sunday, April 26.
