There was a time when every Gundam game wanted you to relive a famous war, pilot a familiar Mobile Suit, or rewrite history with your favorite ace pilot. But the new GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT appears to have other plans. That’s right, folks. We are getting a brand-new Gundam video game.
Announced by Bandai Namco Entertainment for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is a brand-new action game set in an original Gundam universe. In other words, nobody knows who the protagonist is, nobody knows who the villain is, and there is a good chance nobody has tried selling the Mobile Suit as a Master Grade kit yet.
The game puts players in the cockpit of the Gundam Helix as pilot Rex (RE-X), accompanied by a Haro partner named Vee. Together, they will face an unknown threat in a sprawling photorealistic vision of space where humanity’s future hangs in the balance. Because if there is one thing Gundam loves almost as much as giant robots, it is putting humanity’s future in danger.
The announcement trailer showcases high-speed combat with Mobile Suits darting through space at alarming speeds while firing enough beam weaponry to make Minovsky particles everyone’s problem again. The visuals look suitably cinematic too, with large-scale battles and plenty of mechanical detail on display.
Details remain scarce for now, but one thing is clear: Bandai Namco is not revisiting old battlefields this time. GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is charting a new course.
