Honor Vs2 Folding Smartphone

I have to admit, I did a double take when I came across this news. I revisited all our recent posts on Honor, and no, we’re not hallucinating. Honor has indeed released another folding phone. The device, called the Honor Vs2, marks the third folding device from the former Huawei sub-brand, following the Magic V2 in July and the V Purse last month. It seems like Honor is determined to make folding phones the norm.

The new Honor Magic Vs2 [CH] is as sleek as the V2, although it’s not thinner (it’s 10.7 mm compared to the V2’s 10.1 mm), but it is the lightest folding phone available, weighing in at just 229g. The weight savings are thanks in part to the rare earth magnesium alloy used. This latest folding phone also features Honor’s self-developed titanium hinge, which is not only reliable but also lightweight. This hinge has no gears, allowing for super-smooth opening and closing while supporting multiple angle positions for the display.

Unlike the V Purse, the Vs2 isn’t a sub-flagship/mid-ranger; it’s more flagship-like thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip handling the heavy lifting, supported by up to 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage. It features two displays, a 6.43-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,376 x 1,060 that opens up to reveal a large 7.92-inch flexible OLED display with 2,344 x 2,156 pixels.

The device also boasts a triple camera setup, including a 50 MP f1.9 wide-angle camera, a 20 MP f2.4 OIS telephoto, and a 12 MP super wide-angle f2.2 camera. The rear camera supports up to 4K video recording with stabilization and up to 40x digital zoom. At the front, it has a 16 MP f2.2 selfie camera. As for a folding phone with two displays, it features two front-facing cameras: one on the secondary display and one on the main display.

The Vs2 is powered by a sizable 5,000 mAh (typ) battery and comes with a 66 W charger. The rest of the spec sheet is quite standard, including dual nano SIM support, 5G radios, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and standard positioning using satellites, and more. Oh, and one non-standard feature is the presence of an IR blaster. The new Honor Vs2 Folding Smartphone is set to hit retail stores on October 17, 2023 (China time, of course) with a starting price of 6,999 yuan [CH], which is approximately $974 in today’s American dollars.
