It is now certain that Johnny Depp will not be part of the 6th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which, according to some reports, will be a reboot. With that said, it’s unclear if Disney is trying to squeeze more out of Johnny Depp before he is officially replaced because Hot Toys, which clearly has the go-ahead from Disney, recently revealed new versions of the collectible figure of Captain Jack Sparrow based on his appearance in Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Depp may benefit from the sales of the toy too, since it is based on his likeness in the movie. However, we could be wrong. We do not know if his manager sealed this deal with Disney in this aspect. In any case, the Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Jack Sparrow 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure is not new.
The original figure was released sometime between 2017 and 2018. What’s new are the versions: a deluxe version and an artisan edition deluxe version. Plus, there’s also an updated reissue that now features a helm instead of a dead shark.
As far as the Deluxe and Artisan Deluxe versions go, they each come with a specially designed pirate-themed diorama base with a translucent ocean water effect and parts of a ship, including the helm, and like the standard issue, it has a lamp with light up feature. The new versions also differ from the original in terms of accessories. Each version has 10 hands as opposed to the original 7, and the costumes are slightly more detailed.
Between the Deluxe and Artisan Edition Deluxe, the former features a detailed hair sculpture with a mix of fabric wool hair implantation, sculpted dreadlocks and braids, sculpted hair accessories, and a red bandana, while the latter is more life-like thanks to the detailed hairstyle using hair implantation (wool material), new accessories, and a red fabric bandana.
Whichever you choose, you’d be getting an incredible likeness to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow head sculpts. The likeness is so uncanny that it feels super surreal looking at it.
Aside from the differences mentioned, the different versions are almost undisguisable without taking a closer look. The specs are the same. Each figure is about 30 cm (about 12 inches) tall and offers 30 points of articulation.
The new Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Jack Sparrow 1/6th Scale Collectible Figures are now available for pre-orders from major toy retailers like Big Bad Toy Store, Sideshow, and more, for around US$300 and up.
