Top Gun is 40 years old today. To celebrate its big 40, Paramount Pictures has teamed up with Mattel’s Hot Wheels to release the Hot Wheels Top Gun 40th Anniversary Set. Debuting at this year’s SDCC, this is no ordinary set. It contains two aircraft: the iconic F-14 Tomcat and the first-ever “MiG-28”, and comes with a display stand to recreate the famous inverted-flight encounter from the original Top Gun.

Fun fact: There is no such fighter jet. The “MiG-28” was actually a repainted F-5 Tiger.
In the scene, Maverick and Goose perform the “impossible” by inverting their F-14 Tomcat over an enemy aircraft. The display stand is complete with the original Top Gun logo on a die-cast metal plate. The F-14 features authentic movie-inspired deco and weathering effects, and even boasts the real jet’s signature swing-wing design. Both aircraft are made from ZAMAC die-cast metal.
The set comes presented in a premium soft-touch display box inspired by Maverick’s helmet. No, it is not shaped like a helmet, unfortunately. It would have been cool if it were. Anyways, the packaging also features memorable movie quotes and the photo taken by Goose.
The Hot Wheels Top Gun 40th Anniversary Set launches on July 23, 2026, at 9 AM PT for US$35. I have a feeling this may fly off the shelves (pun not intended), so if you want one, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the release date.
