In an ideal world, everyone will have a dedicated guest room so that their parents, friends, or even siblings have somewhere comfortable to stay whenever they come over. We love having our loved ones close, after all.
Of course, not everyone has a room to spare for temporary accommodations. If all your rooms are currently in full occupation, or you’ve got one room, and one office, and can’t bear to let that office go, then the solution is simple: You need a living-guest room.
A living-guest room is a living room that can be fully converted into a guest room. For the best results, use this guide to help you design the space beautifully so it’s a dream for you to lounge in, and a delight for guests to rest in:

Start with the Sofa
There are three main options when it comes to choosing a seating option that can also double as a place to sleep.
Sofa Beds
The first, of course, is a full sofa bed! Sofa beds are the go-to option for those who want to offer their guests a grown-up experience, have more people over, and, of course, be able to pack it all away at the end of the visit. Today sofa beds can be incredibly comfortable, so you won’t feel like you’ve lost out on either the sofa or the bed – you’ll have the best of both worlds instead!
Day Bed
Another option is to choose a day bed. Day beds are great for lounging, especially if you load them up with pillows and create a nook for yourself when you aren’t actively sleeping on them. Then, when your guest is over, they have a full-sized bed. Day beds, of course, are probably best suited for very small living rooms, since they don’t have the design of a couch at all (being a bed).
3+ Seater Sofa
Another option is to simply opt for a long enough sofa. You can choose a sectional, or a long sofa, and have guests sleep on it. The only thing that it needs to be then is long enough for a grown man to sleep on comfortably. To further enhance the experience you can then invest in custom-fitted sheets (or DIY them) so that your guests have the ultimate “sleeping on your sofa” experience.
Side or Back Tables
Side tables are so important for living spaces and bedrooms. Not only do you want to make sure that you have them, but you will also want to make sure that there’s a plug within easy access.
If you don’t have the space for a full side table, don’t worry. You can actually create a small ledge table that you put behind your sofa. There are DIY tutorials on how you can add plugs to this back table as well, for ultimate convenience.
Guest Storage
Now, you don’t need to have a hole closet in your living room just in case guests arrive. What you should have, however, is somewhere that space can be made. If space is a big issue for you, then invest in a custom storage solution.
If you need a lot, sacrifice the floor space and have a whole wall of cabinets built into your space. Otherwise, invest in a wardrobe or even just a basket that can house a suitcase so you can keep their things neatly stored away while they are visiting.
