Huawei MatePad Pro 5G and MateBook X Pro Laptop

Do not confuse with the Huawei MatePad Pro you have seen last year. This MatePad Pro is a 5G model, aptly called, well, MatePad Pro 5G. They are somewhat identical, though, save for the key difference in the chip which, on the 5G model, is of course the Kirin 990 5G SoC.

The MatePad Pro 5G gets 8 GB RAM across the board while storage comes in a choice of 256 or 512 GB, with NM memory card support up to 256 GB.

The rest of the spec-sheet looks to be the same with 10.8-inch WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixels), a 13 MP rear-facing camera, an 8 MP front-facing camera, dual-band WiFi, quad-channel and quad-speaker sound system, Bluetooth 5.1, the usual suspect of location and sensors, and a 7,250 mAh battery that has wireless charging support as well as reverse wireless charging.

Oh, wait, there’s actually a couple of other key differences. Firstly, is the price. The MatePad Pro has a starting price of roughly US$470, but the 5G model starts at 799 euros, which works out to be around US$867. That’s nearly twice the amount of what Huawei sells the MatePad Pro in its home market.

Secondly, the MatePad Pro 5G is available outside of China unlike the non-5G variety.

In addition to the 5G Android tablet, Huawei also pushes out a a new MateBook X Pro 2020 Edition laptop. No, its not the Linux version we heard about last year. This one runs on Windows 10 Home out-of-the-box.

Aesthetically, it looks similar to the 2019 model, but under the hood, it has been upgraded with 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10210U/i7-10510U processor with 8/16 GB LPDDR3 2133 MHz RAM and 512/1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD.
