Jaguar Type 01 EV Prototype
The controversial Jaguar Type 00 wasn't just a show car after all. Meet the Jaguar Type 01, the first production EV to inherit its dramatic styling, JEA platform, and vision for Jaguar's electric future.

When Jaguar unveiled the Type 00 in late 2024, opinions were… spirited, to say the least. The dramatic concept later made its Asian debut last year, but one question continued to follow it wherever it went: was Jaguar really going to build a road car that looked like this?

Well, that question had an answer in February this year when the first camouflaged prototypes emerged from Arctic winter testing. The company still wasn’t ready to show the production car in full, simply referring to it as its upcoming four-door Luxury GT. Then, in May, the mystery ended. Jaguar confirmed its name: Type 01, and then a couple of days later, it turned up at the Monaco E-Prix.

As expected, the production car has toned down some of the concept’s more theatrical touches, but don’t mistake it for a watered-down version. The Type 01 carries over the Type 00’s unmistakable design DNA, from its impossibly long bonnet and dramatic proportions to the clean surfacing and signature Strikethrough design element. In other words, Jaguar wasn’t bluffing.

The same goes for what lies beneath the bodywork. The Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform previewed by the Type 00 now underpins the Type 01, turning what was once a design exercise into Jaguar’s next-generation road car. The company says the new four-door luxury GT is engineered to deliver effortless long-distance refinement while embracing a fully electric future.

The name also makes perfect sense now. According to Jaguar, “Type” pays homage to legendary models like the C-Type, D-Type, E-Type, and F-TYPE. The “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and Jaguar’s clean-sheet reboot, while the “1” signifies the first production Jaguar of this new era.

Prototype vehicles have already been spotted wearing camouflage during public appearances, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. The full reveal is expected later this year. Until then, the Type 01 stands as proof that the Type 00 wasn’t simply a bold concept—it was a preview of Jaguar’s future all along.
