The Range Rover Electric has become something of an automotive unicorn. It was first teased back in 2023, has appeared at exclusive preview events since, and even made its first public appearance at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Yet, somehow, it still has not officially launched. Never mind the missed dates and all, because Range Rover wants to give you one more automobile to look forward to: the Range Rover Sport Electric.
Officially confirmed as the luxury marque’s second EV, the Range Rover Sport Electric promises to usher in a new era of sporting luxury. According to Range Rover, it will be the fastest and most dynamic Sport ever, pairing effortless electric performance with the engaging driving character the model has become known for. It retains the familiar muscular silhouette, but beneath the skin is a fully electric powertrain backed by an advanced chassis tune and a specially developed sound experience to keep things visceral even without a roaring engine.
The new electric SUV gave guests a preview during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where prototype vehicles tackled a series of driving challenges inspired by some of the Range Rover Sport’s greatest hits. Think the legendary 999-step climb to Heaven’s Gate in China and the dramatic ascent of an Icelandic hydroelectric spillway. No, it wasn’t scaling staircases at Goodwood, but the demonstrations were enough to hint that the Sport hasn’t forgotten its adventurous roots just because it has gone electric.
When it arrives later this year, the Range Rover Sport Electric will complete the Sport lineup, joining the existing plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid V8, and six-cylinder petrol and diesel models. As for specifications, Range Rover is still keeping those under wraps.
