The Jolla Tablet Preorder

Is the world ready for an alternate OS to the popular Android and iOS? Apparently, it is as proven by the overwhelming support for the world’s first crowdsourced tablet from Finnish outfit Jolla. The Jolla Tablet, as it is called, concluded a successfully funded Indiegogo campaign last December, rolling in a grand $2.55 million in funding from more than 21,000 backers. If you have missed the opportunity to secure the handsome Sailfish 2.0 OS-powered slate, well, fret not because pre-order is now open. But there’s a catch here: it is only available to select countries, namely U.S.A., Canada, Australia, EU, Norway, Switzerland, India, and Hong Kong.

The tablet is available through Indiegogo’s InDemand program for $239 and $269 for the 32GB and 64GB model, respectively, or €267 and €299, direct from Jolla’s web store. Expected delivery is as soon as November 2015 and since Jolla isn’t exactly a new kid, you probably expect these folks to keep their words as far as delivery is concerned.

Key features include a 64-bit 1.8GHz quad-core Intel processor, 2GB RAM, microSD card slot for storage expansion, a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution 7.85-inch IPS multi-touch display, a 5MP rear-facing and 2MP front-facing camera, a built-in 4,450 mAh battery, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS, and the usual suspect of sensors that makes today’s tablet ticks.
