Kensington StudioDock iPad Docking Station

The Kensington StudioDock iPad Docking Station is, in many ways, like the Apple Pro Stand, including having a beautiful and functional design that integrates seamlessly with your iPad Pro 11”, iPad Air or iPad Pro 12.9”, and a pretty steep asking price of US$399.99.

400 bucks is over a third less of the Apple Pro Stand, but relatively speaking, it feels just as expensive, if not more expensive. But a boon, for that grand amounts, you get to turn your iPad into a mini iMac of sort.

Beyond the elegant look, it offers a dock which lets you rotate between Portrait and Landscape orientation, a SD card reader, and a bunch of ports, including 3x USB-A ports, a USB-C port that supports 5V/3A and 9V/2A charging, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, and support for a single 4K HDMI 2.0 video, so you work on a larger flat screen if you have one.

Those are not all; in addition to rapid charging the docked iPad, it also boasts a wireless charging pad at its base that is capable of charging Qi wireless iPhone at up to 7.5W and an AirPods at up to 5W. Kensington said it will be offering an optional charging for Apple Watch up to 5W, which will be sold separate and available sometime in mid 2021.

The Kensington StudioDock works with USB-C iPad Pro 11” (2018 or later), iPad Air (2020 or later), or iPad Pro 12.9” (2018 or later), and it uses magnetic force to securely attached to the dock.

At 400 bucks a pop, the dock is pricey, but if you are a creative and iPad is part of your workflow, I guess the Kensington StudioDock may be worthy investment.
