If you missed out on the LEGO Chomping Monster Book of Monsters that was part of the Gift with Purchase promo back in January 2021, here’s your chance to pick one up. But this isn’t set 30628—this is a brand-new creation. The new LEGO Harry Potter Chomping Monster Book of Monsters (76449) features more elements better to capture the hairy, hungry, spider-like book.

While actual hair isn’t possible in brick form, the designer(s) have cleverly used a studded surface with brown plant elements to give the illusion of fur. The result is a pretty impressive brick-built version of the monster that looks ready to take a hand—or two—into its gaping maw.
Set 76449 is larger, too, measuring 16 cm in length, 15 cm in width, and 6 cm in depth (over 6.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 inches) when complete. The set is also good news for minifigure collectors, cos it includes a new Neville Longbottom minifigure, holding a miniature Monster Book of Monsters accessory element.
This big guy isn’t just a pretty face (or a face at all, really); it also has some playability thanks to hidden wheels and a pull-back function. Set it on a flat surface, pull it back, and watch it speed off with its mouth chomping wildly. Now that sounds like fun to me.
So, there is nothing to worry about this brick-rocious set because it is not sentient. You dispense with stroking its spine to calm it down.
If this magical “textbook” sounds like your kind of reading material, it’s available now from LEGO.com and major toy retailers for US$59.99, give or take.
