LEGO Icons Venetian Neighborhood (11388)
A gondola and canal-side buildings are expected in a LEGO Venice. A street piano that plays real notes is a lovely surprise. The Venetian Neighborhood fills its waterfront with glassblowing, carnival costumes, and a moving astronomical calendar, while early buyers can add a water taxi to the scene as a gift.

If your LEGO property collection already includes the Italian Riviera and the French Café, your miniature European holiday has another stop. Folks, meet the LEGO Icons Venetian Neighbourhood (11388), a canal-side slice of Venice that may require some rearranging of your actual neighborhood of LEGO sets.

This is a 5,682-piece build, and it puts those pieces to work on a luxury villa, an artisan glassblowing workshop, and an astronomical clock tower. An arched bridge crosses the canal, with a gondola completing the scene. It would be a rather questionable Venice set without one.

Unlike the Italian Riviera’s fishing-village setting, this one brings the city’s waterways and carnival characters into the picture. All told, there are 17 minifigures, including gondoliers, musicians, tourists, and two elaborately dressed carnival-goers. Your display won’t be short of people who appear to be having a better holiday than you.

And it has a couple of neat tricks. Turn the flower vase on the street piano, and it plays real notes. Rotate a knob on the clock tower, and its astronomical calendar moves. The piano detail is particularly cool. A tiny street performance can now interrupt your inspection of the architecture.

Roofs and floors lift away to reveal the interiors, while the diorama separates into two rearrangeable sections. Completed, it measures over 48 cm (19 inches) high, 64 cm (25 inches) wide, and 33 cm (13 inches) deep. Best measure the shelf before committing to this particular Italian address.

The 322-piece bonus includes a classic water taxi, a dock, captain and tourist minifigures, and two pigeons. Venice’s public transport situation is looking rather well covered.
