I am sure LEGO space geeks who cannot get enough of brick-built space exploration hardware will be thrilled when they hear about the new LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System (10341). That’s right, my fellow space exploration-loving adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs), there is a new LEGO space set that will keep you building after you have completed all 52 creative space-themed LEGO MOCs and the countless LEGO space-themed sets.
Announced together with the LEGO Art The Milky Way Galaxy (31212) set, the LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System (10341) is a 3,601-piece set that recreates the Space Launch System (SLS), a super heavy-lift expendable launch vehicle used by NASA to launch the Artemis Moon landing program. It is an incredibly detailed and accurate representation of the latest hardware for America’s Moon expedition program.
The LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System (10341) includes a multistage rocket with two solid-fuel boosters and a detailed mobile launch tower, complete with retractable umbilicals, rocket support, and a crew bridge. The set also includes an accurately brick-built replica of the Orion spacecraft, which is powered by the European Space Agency’s European Service Module.
The spacecraft features foldout solar panels, which can be stowed inside the rocket or placed on a separate display stand. Rounding out the package is the requisite printed plaque with key information about the SLS, complete with NASA, ESA, and Artemis logos.
When completed, the LEGO Icons Space Launch System model towers at an intimidating 70 cm tall and has a 27 cm wide by 30 cm footprint (about 27.5 x 10.5 x 12 inches). It may not need a large shelf space, but it surely needs the vertical space.
The LEGO Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System (10341) will arrive on May 18, 2024, priced at US$259.99. In case anyone is wondering, it’s slightly more expensive at a little over 7 cents per piece.
