I am not particularly creative when it comes to LEGO. I just build what it was supposed to be. However, there are some enthusiasts out there who felt the need to modify and tweak the set and if you are of them, LEGO Ideas invites you to unleash your creative skills by building an add-on to the a model of any 2018 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets.
I can’t remember when this campaign started, but if you are up for the challenge, you have another 8 days to submit your add-on creation. As the saying goes, be careful of what you wish for and in the case of LEGO, the Danish toy maker asked and the community responded with hordes of mutated LEGO Creator 2-in-1 sets. Some of the submission are pretty ridiculous like these vials, but most of them are too cool not to be a real set.
The LEGO Surfer Van was a much modified example, probably because LEGO made a video to promote this campaign where LEGO team turned the van into a walking van. At the time of this writing, we counted no less on 14 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Sunshine Surfer Van-based mutations. I am especially digging the Surfer Van Mech by dvdliu_mocer and the somewhat horrifying scorpion/van hybrid that is ironically called Sunshine Surfer Fun. I guess when you are being chased by your van with scorpion legs, tails and whatnot, it won’t be exactly fun, is it?
I am enamored by the Mech and the Scorpion Van. I really do. Oh. We forgot to mention it is a contest which ends December 4, 2018, 6PM EST. There will be one Grand Prize winner, two Runner-Up winners and one Bonus winner. The Gran Prize winner will be gifted with the full 2018 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 assortment, select 2017 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets, a LEGO Creator 3-in-1 tee, plus a LEGO Creator 3-in-1 frame created by a LEGO designer and a winner’s certificate.
