You may remember Sariel for its flashy sportscar builds, but what you may not know is, this LEGO Technic extraordinaire is equally apt in creating other kind of vehicles and his latest “other kind of vehicles” is this insanely massive RC LEGO Technic Caterpillar 797F Dump Truck.
How massive, you ask? How does 9.162 lbs (4.156 kilograms) sounds? If over 9 pounds of heft is not indicative of how big this build is, perhaps its length of 63 studs, width of 39 studs and height of 32 studs, which works out to be equivalent to over 19 inches (50.4 centimeters) long, 12 inches (31.2 centimeters) wide and 10 inches (25.6 centimeters) tall, should convince you that this masterpiece is freaking HUGE.
It so big that a regular big tires from LEGO won’t cut it. Sariel had to get innovative and turn to RC tires made by RC4WD. As with most of Sariel’s works, the LEGO RC Caterpillar 797F Dump Truck is powered by Power Functions and Mindstorms EV3.
The sheer size is no doubt impressive, but what’s even more impressive is its self-leveling double wishbone independent suspension that, as the name implies, actively self-level to ensure that the truck is always levelled. Man, you have to see it in action to appreciate this bit of detail.
Driving the big miniature dump truck are a pair of PF XL motor coupled to a 12.6:1 gear. In additions, there are two PF XL motor, one PF M motor and two EV3 large motor that powers other functions. I shall leave it to you to digest Sariel’s works detailed on his website.
There are just way too many things to take in and TBH, I am kinda overwhelmed. And oh, it does have a fully functional dump body that has a pretty impressive payload of 4.4 lbs (2 kilograms). Continue reading to find the said video. Try to keep your jaw up while you are at it, ya?
