Folks, meet the Limitless Propulsions Stick-style Electric Drive—officially dubbed “REM: The Foldable Speed Stick for Any Skater.” What is it, you ask? Well, it’s a handheld electric drive that transforms non-motorized roller skates, inline skates, or skateboards into powered rides. Basically, if it has wheels and isn’t already powered, the Speed Stick is here to electrify it. Heck, it could probably turn a shopping trolley into a speed demon—but seriously, don’t try that.

The catch? You’ll need to hold this Speed Stick like an oar—or maybe like the outboard motor of a speedboat. It’s a concept so wild you can’t help but love it. But if you think about it, it’s not entirely out of this world. After all, we’ve seen people strap battery drills to inline skates and skateboards. Compared to those DIY contraptions, the Speed Stick just makes the idea a bit less awkward. Emphasis on “less.”
REM’s Speed Stick takes the legwork out of skating, making uphill climbs and long rides a breeze on inline skates, roller skates, longboards, and more. The magic happens thanks to a beefy 3,000 W brushless motor that powers a grippy polyurethane wheel. A sturdy carbon fiber stick connects you to this portable powerhouse, which might just make you look like a witch about to take off on a futuristic broomstick.
This gadget packs a punch with a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) and a built-in battery that delivers up to 20 kilometers (13 miles) of range. Weighing in at a manageable 5 kilograms (about 11 pounds), it’s light enough to carry—but only just. When you’re done zipping around, the carbon fiber stick detaches and folds down, stowing neatly on the unit’s integrated strap system.
How well will this wild idea be received? Who knows? We’ll find out when it rolls onto Kickstarter. Meanwhile, you can sign up to be notified of the launch and decide if you’re ready to live out your powered skating dreams—or just look like a wizard in training.
