Do you know the pop art installation of an Austin Mini Cooper over at Petersen Automotive Museum? It is a tribute to Matchbox’s 70th anniversary in 2023 but it’s OK if you don’t because we have exciting news for you. What if I tell you that you can own one? Well, albeit in 1:64 scale.
Matchbox has teamed up with the artist responsible for the life-size Austin Mini Cooper art installation, pop artist Thierry Guetta aka Mr Brainwash, to release a 1:64 version inspired by the colorful, graffiti Mini Cooper.
The Matchbox x Mr Brainwash 1964 Austin Mini Cooper S, as it is called, has a Fiesta Yellow body beneath the colorful exterior inspired by Mr Brainwash’s custom paint job.
The 1:64 scale diecast car features a ZAMAC body type, a VUM silver chassis, a super smoke-tinted window with an Oxblood red interior, and rolls on True Grip classic two-piece hub tires with silver hubs.
It is quite a sight to behold like its life-size counterpart. The difference is that anyone with 40 bucks to drop can bring home one. Also, it does need a garage; it just needs a small space on your shelf or desk.
The collectible die-cast toy car comes packaged in an acrylic case with a decorative outer box. The acrylic bears the name branding of the Austin Cooper, along with the name of the car on one corner and the autograph of Mr Brainwash on the other.
The Matchbox x Mr Brainwash 1964 Austin Mini Cooper S is a made-to-order item available from creations.mattel.com. It is available for pre-order starting from November 09, 2023, to December 09, 2023, at 11:59 PM PT. Hey, we are not late on this one! 😜
