Microsoft and Stranger Things Collaborations

OK. It is kind of late now that Stranger Things 3 is already up, but here it is, the details on what Microsoft have teased last week. In case you missed it, the Redmond software giant had posted a mysterious announcement on an “all-new Windows 1.0” and today, we learned what it was all about. It was a Stranger Things collaboration to mark the return of the third season which is set in 1985. 1985 was also the year which the company released the graphical extension of MS-DOS, the Microsoft Windows 1.0.

There are few things going on. Kicking off the string of events is Microsoft’s nod to the third season hit Netflix TV show with a Camp Know Where which will start on July 20, but with a 21st century twist. The ‘camp’ will happen at all Microsoft stores in Australia, Canada, the U.K and the U.S. will conduct STEM workshops leveraging on, you guessed it, Microsoft technology.

Camp Know Where includes two programs for students 13+ at Microsoft Stores in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. At Rule the arcade, students learn game and coding concepts to create a playable game—and become rulers of the arcade like Mad Max or Lucas. At Strange-ify your world, participants create a Stranger Things-inspired mini movie using 3D models, Windows Ink, special effects, and even a soundtrack.

The ‘camp’, however, will not feature Windows 1.0 computers. It, instead, is a special edition PC app inspired by the very first Microsoft Windows and features the iconic Paint and Terminal programs, along with Stranger Things-themed puzzles and content – without the need for floppy disks, of course.

Experience 1985 nostalgia with a special edition PC app inspired by Windows 1.0—but something strange has taken over. Explore the mysteries and secrets plaguing Hawkins, unlock unique show content and easter eggs, and play retro games and puzzles—all building off Stranger Things 3. It’s the raddest show companion experience ever. But fair warning: beware the Mind Flayer.

Finally, the collaboration wraps up with a sweepstakes where you will have a chance to win a Stranger Things 3 Collectible Arcade Cabinet, as well as an Xbox One X.
