We love how Apple and later, Samsung and LG, made the gadget world more beautiful. Without them, we wouldn’t have expect Microsoft to pull the socks in the design department. The latest of Microsoft’s effort can be seen in the new Microsoft Surface Laptop. Sporting a clean, elegant design, this sleek portable computing device comes in four rich tone-on-tone combinations with the keyboard spruced up by Alcantara fabric. Yes. That Alcantara. The same type that you usually found in automobile seats and upholstery, but it does cover the keys, of course; it was the area surrounding the keyboard that gets this luxurious fabric.
As far as aesthetic is concerned, the new Surface Pro is extremely clean-looking. Everything about it seems uber straight. It is so straight that it actually looks rather futuristic, imho. Anyways, enough of the looks. We all know it is sleek, so now on with what this ultra-thin and lightweight (it weighs a mere 2.76 lbs or 1.25 kg) portable has to offer under the hood. Fronting the device is a vibrant 13.5-inch PixelSense Display with touch capability, naturally, that offers an expansive edge-to-edge viewing with reasonable narrow bezel. Microsoft describe the bezel as ultra-thin, but trust me, they are not nearly as narrow as DELL’s.
The new Microsoft Surface Laptop is offered in a choice of 7th Gen Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor – both which are compatible with Surface Dial, with the latter getting the option of Intel Iris graphics for dealing with graphic-intensive tasks. The i5 models gets up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 620, while the i7 models can be configured with up to 16GB RAM, up to 512GB SSD, and the aforementioned Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. A few other notables include Omnisonic Speakers with Dolby Audio Premium sound, built-in front-facing 720p camera, Windows Hello face sign-in camera, and the usual suspects of ports (including SurfaceConnect), as well as wireless options.
There’s no doubt Microsoft has, in recent years, placed more emphasis on design and as mentioned, this new portable is no exception. Being beautiful and all, this portable seems to be targeted at students. I can’t help but to notice several reference to studying, and less on dealing with business works. Anyways, that’s just an observation.
