You may not have seen it coming, but knowing Xiaomi, you probably should have. I am talking about a portable fan, a.k.a. a handheld fan, that is all the rage now thanks to the crazy heat some parts of the world are enduring.
The Mijia Handheld Fan, as it is simply called, is an airline-friendly, compact portable fan that boasts up to 250 m³/h airflow. It even claims it can deliver airflow from up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) away, with wind speeds reaching 8.5 m/s.
Also typical of Xiaomi, it squeezes a large-capacity 5,000 mAh rechargeable battery into the device—recharged via USB-C—that delivers up to 40 hours of runtime. It has fast charging too. Just 10 minutes of charging provides up to 4 hours of use.
Moreover, this little wind-producing beast can share its juice with your other small devices, serving as a power bank.
Interestingly, where most fans offer three to five levels of adjustment, this little guy boasts 100 levels of stepless adjustment. A hundred! Can you imagine that?
Powering all this is a high-performance electric motor.
Design-wise, it is typical Xiaomi sleekness. Air is pushed out from the perimeter of the fan, while an LED display at the center shows the current wind level and battery status.
And then there is the sliding power switch that helps prevent accidental activation.
The device is compact, measuring 63 x 64 x 167 mm (2.5 x 2.5 x 6.6 inches), and weighs just 260 g (9.2 oz). It comes with a detachable crossbody strap that can be adjusted to different lengths. It can be worn across the body, hung from a bag, or carried by hand, transforming it into a stylish accessory that is easy to take anywhere.
The craziest part? It costs just 199 yuan [CH] (about US$30) in China, where it is currently on sale.
