If you are familiar with the Montegrappa writing instrument, you will know the same edition fountain and rollerball share the same design. The Italian luxury brand’s first-ever designs for the legendary rock band, The Rolling Stones is no different — except that the fountain pen further offers two additional extravagant models inspired by two of The Stones’ timeless tracks, “She’s a Rainbow” and “Ruby Tuesday.”
Collectively, they are known as The Stones Legacy: SIXTY series and boy are the most ostentatious creations to date by Montegrappa. And we do really mean ostentatious. Imagine pens so luxurious they shimmer with solid gold and sparkle with an array of precious stones.
These pens aren’t just writing instruments; they’re masterpieces crafted to celebrate the indomitable spirit of a band that’s been dazzling fans for over six decades.
The collection is divided into the Parallel Icons editions, featuring 60 exclusive fountain pens and rollerballs each, symbolizing the 60 glorious years of The Rolling Stones and each with its dedicated theme.
The She’s a Rainbow is the most extravagant of the two; it features an astonishing 1,488 diamonds and colored stones set in white gold. The Ruby Tuesday is encrusted with 744 rubies on its faceted, yellow gold barrel.
Both designs feature The Rolling Stones’ famed Classic Tongue logo, adorned with 60 rubies and complemented by white diamonds set on an impressive beveled crown.
Below this, gemstones mimic the tuning pegs along a stylized clip that echoes Keith Richards’ distinctive 5-string guitar technique. In addition, both pens also showcase extensive Victorian floral motifs, inspired by Mick Jagger’s extravagant stage costumes.
The new Montegrappa Stones Legacy SIXTY Collection is now available worldwide via Arika International, with the Fountain Pens, Ruby Tuesday, going for €69,000 (about US$74,400) and the Fountain Pens, She’s a Rainbow, commanding a mind-boggling €89,000 (roughly US$96,000).
These luxury writing instruments are released to mark the British rock band’s electrifying world tour Hackney Diamonds, celebrating the band’s diamond anniversary.
Obviously, those are not for everyone; thankfully, there are the 1962 Fountain Pens and Rollerballs in Purple or Scarlet going for “just” €3,995 and €3,495 (around US$4,310 and US$3,770), respectively.
