Motorola Edge 40 Pro Smartphone

This is the new Motorola Edge 40 Pro (stylized as motorola edge 40 pro). It is on the opposite spectrum of the moto g power 5G. It features a quad-curved, “endless edge design” which basically spells “Hey, I am a flagship device!” and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

Save for the camera bump which can be quite monotonous looking and uninspiring, the new Edge is actually quite pretty to look at. It has an anti-fingerprint coating on the front and velvet anti-glare glass inlay on the back, and sandwiched between them is a thin, precision-cut aluminum frame. Both glass surfaces benefit from the protection by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The device is IP68 rated which affords up to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) immersion in freshwater for up to 30 minutes. It is armed with a “triple high-res camera”.

Leading the trio is a 50 MP main camera with OIS and “instant all-pixel focus” which motorola says offers 32x more focusing pixels compared to traditional PDAF. Completing the triple camera setup is a 50 MP ultrawide camera with Macro Vision and a 12 MP 2x telephoto portrait camera. Meanwhile, over at the front, it has a whopping 60 MP selfie camera with Snapdragon’s Cognitive Image Signal Processor.

The camera system is capable of recording 8K, or in 4K HDR10+, and offers some interesting imaging features including Video Night Vision mode, Horizon Lock Stabilization (a feature found mostly on action cameras), Video Auto Focus Tracking, and Video Portrait (bokeh).

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is outfitted with a large 165 Hz 6.67” FHD+ pOLED display, and it comes with a 125 W TurboPower charging that can fully charge its 4,600 mAh in 23 minutes. The battery is good for over over 30 hours of power on a single charge. In addition, it has 15 W wireless charging and 5 W wireless power sharing.

A few other notables include LPDDR5X RAM, UFS4.0 storage, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, fingerprint sensor, dual SIM (eSIM+pSIM), Dolby Vision HDR support (the first for motorola, btw), HDR10+ support, Dolby Atmos support, two large stereo speakers, and with this device, motorola also introduces the Moto Spatial Sound.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro will not be landing in NA but it will head to Latin America. In the meantime, it is available in Europe, including the U.K., for €899.99/£799.99.
