I bet you never see this coming, TMNT fans. What you see here is what we thought a rather obscure, serious fans-only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy set. Folks, meet the Musical Mutagen Tour action figures, based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming Out of Their Shells Tour.
For the uninitiated, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming Out of Their Shells Tour was a live musical tour that happened in at the height of the TMNT popularity, in 1990. You see why I said it is reserved for the super fans only? If you aren’t a super fan, you would not even have heard about this ‘musical’.
Marking 30 years since the heroic Turtles’ first live action movie and also, you know, 30 years since they swapped out their weapons for musical instrument, NECA has released a set of action figures based when the hero in a hard shell had a musical career.
Despite some inaccuracies as pointed out by this article on GameSpot, these figures actually look better than the 90s iteration.
The NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Musical Mutagen Tour set was originally intended as a convention exclusive. Since conventions aren’t happening because of the pandemic, it will be offered in the U.S. market through Target.
The set will run you back at US$125 when it becomes available on July 23, 2020. Drop 25 bucks more, you will also secure an accessory pack containing a t-shirt, backstage pass, bag, faux ticket, and set of guitar picks.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans outside of the U.S. will have pick the musician in a hard shell direct from NECA web store.
