A little known publisher called Udon Entertainment has released a new must-have book for any Neon Genesis Evangelion fan. Called Neon Genesis Evangelion: TV Animation Production Art Collection (ISBN-13: 978-1772940428), this 432-page hardcover book is the ultimate compendium of blind scenes and archival design sketches of the 1995 Japanese animated television series and the 1997 theatrical release. It includes draft artwork of characters, mecha, weapons, vehicles, plus boatload of interior and exterior locations – all of which are supported by the original artists’ detailed design notes. It is a book to own running up to the release of the new Evangelion movie.
If the book’s 432 pages did not give you a hint of how massive this collectible literature is, then I am sure the 11.8 by 8.2 inches (about 30 by 21 centimeters) physical size and 1.7 lbs (0.77 kilogram) should. Neon Genesis Evangelion: TV Animation Production Art Collection (that’s quite a mouthful, eh?) will be released on March 12, 2019 for $31.87. It is available for pre-order under Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee. Which means, if the price decreases from now and the end of the day of the release date, you will get the lower price.
Moving on… if you, for some reasons, have not caught with the original series, or you need a refresher on this emo-filled, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic mecha action drama, you will be able to catch the entire series on Netflix. Or if you like, you can get all yourself all psyched up with the teaser movie trailer of the upcoming animated movie after a few sneak peek of the content.
