while solar energy is not uncommon in the commercial sector, its application in the military is few and far between. however, this might just change with the U.S. Army current evaluation of the possibility of harnessing the power of the sun through the use of transportable solar-powered tents.
currently, three products are being evaluated, namely: Power Shade, TEMPER Fly and QUADrant. pretty fancy names, i must say. these tents has Flexible Photovoltaics (PV) built-in them and are capable of the generating between 200 watts to 3 kilowatts of electricity. of course, the physical size of the tents are different too.
traditionally, portable batteries or generators are used to supply field tents with electrical power, hence with the solar-powered tents, the these traditional way of supplying power in field could be a thing of the past. no more lugging of batteries and fuel around as the tents get redeployed from places to places, not to mention it’s environmental-friendly and saves on cost for deployment in the field.
all we need to established now is the storage of the harvested energy. certainly, the storage must be ample, able to keep the energy stored effectively and last but not least, they mustn’t be bulky. else, it will defeat part of the purposed of the solar-powered tents. it would be funny, to be lugging around huge bulky storage cells, instead of batteries or fuel. don’t you think so?
(image credit: Alibaba) 5-in-1 Camera Connection Kit | US$tbc
we just talked about how we would be expected to multi-function a couple of days ago, and thus, we also expects the devices or equipment that we use to do the same. before long, we found the 3-in-1 camera connection kit that allows one gadget to do three things and now, as if three functions wasn’t enough, there’s the 5-in-1 Camera Connection Kit for iPad.
there are two versions of this 5-in-1 device: one that supports a range of memory cards and the other comes with USB port, SD card slot, micro-SD card slot, AV-out port and a mini-USB port. seriously, the latter one has some redundancy to it. it already has the USB port, why bother with a mini-USB?
needless to say, the 5-in-1 Camera Connection Kit is a product of a Chinese electronics company. no words on the pricing and when this thing will be eventually available to the mass market.
check this out. Microsoft Surface finally sees practical use in Hong Kong Red MR karaoke bar. Red MR has 80 units of the Microsoft Surface in 80 of its karaoke rooms and with plan to increase to 300 units in future. it should be the biggest order for the Microsoft Surface to date.
i guess Microsoft will be proud to know at least their Surface is seeing some real use in the commercial sector. though the order number of 80 is hardly considered ‘big’ in commercial sense, but still it is a start. we are more than excited to see things going towards the REAL future. well, we don’t need to detail further, check out the videos below and witness for yourself.
an alternative to Apple camera connection kit this $29.90 3-in-1 Camera Connection Kit for iPad. not only the kit combines the USB and SD card slot dongle into one, it also includes a micro-SD card slot. why the addition? i have no idea. perhaps, it was an attempt to differential itself from the knock-off 2-in-1 Camera Connection Kit.
whatever it is, it makes perfect sense to lump 2 or 3 connectivity into one for convenience sake. we love our gadgets but want to minimize the things we have to bring around to make our lovely gadgets happy. the kit is available in either black or white. at a glance, the kit does look suspiciously like a power pack for iPhone. of course, it is not.
