Porsche Taycan Guinness World Records on Ice

Porsche just can’t help itself when it comes to breaking records with the Taycan. Back in 2021, it hit 165.1 km/h indoors, presumably scaring janitors half to death. By 2024, it was setting new lap times at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. And now? The Taycan has found yet another stage for its talents: ice. Because when you’re out of racetracks, why not slide in circles like a hyper-powered figure skater?

On January 14, 2025, at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, instructor Jens Richter hopped behind the wheel and drifted the Taycan GTS around a 59-meter-diameter ice track for 132 laps over 46 minutes, covering 17.503 kilometers (10.87 miles). That’s a lot of sideways action. With temperatures dropping (and nerves holding steady), the team bested the previous record of 14.809 kilometers.

The first attempt was cut short after just 11 kilometers when the ice started breaking apart faster than a bad first date. But switching to shorter spikes on the tires and cooler conditions saved the day. “The Taycan GTS proved it can drift even with all-wheel drive,” said a triumphant Jens Richter. “It speaks volumes for the car’s balanced performance and excellent chassis.”

Under the eagle eyes of Guinness adjudicator Carl Saville, every moment was recorded, from throttle inputs to steering wheel movements and G-forces, presumably just shy of making Richter’s coffee spill.

If this keeps up, Porsche will soon run out of record ideas. Ice? Check. Indoors? Done. Next up: breaking records on Mars, perhaps?

For now, the Taycan boasts four Guinness World Records titles—and you just know they’re already scheming for number five.
