Once upon a time, Chinese phone makers couldn’t resist mimicking the designs of successful brands. But those days are behind them. These days, major Chinese smartphone companies take inspiration from each other and actually create some pretty awesome-looking handsets. The Realme GT Neo6 SE is one such handset whose aesthetics had us at hello.
From afar, it looks like the Realme GT Neo6 SE [CH] has three individual camera modules, but in reality, on the mirror-finished tall bar that runs across the upper section of the phone are two camera bumps and a black, non-protruding circle with a pair of camera flashes.
While two large camera bumps are not new, this dual-camera bump and a black circle for flash configuration are pretty refreshing and eye-catching, IMHO. However, the Realme GT Neo6 SE, as denoted by ‘SE’, is not quite a flagship. Well, at least the SoC isn’t.
While so, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is still a SoC destined to power flagship killer devices and boasts on-device AI. As expected, the chip is bolstered by the fastest memories available in the market today, namely LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0.
Another key selling point of this device is the eye-popping high-end display. The 6.78” 1.5K display is lauded as the world’s first SGS-certified 5A gaming screen. That’s right. Somehow, this device is also marketed as a gaming-focused handset.
The display is one of the best displays that touts up to a 120 Hz refresh rate, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 6,000 nits brightness, and 8T LTPO OLED technology that is said to be extremely frugal on energy consumption.
The display also touts Pro-XDR, “Greenfield” AI eye-protection, 2,160 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, medium to high brightness DC dimming, and a 2,500 Hz touch engine. The display’s features do not end there. It further boasts so-called AI protective film touch, supports wet touch, has a whopping 2,500 Hz instant touch sampling rate, intelligent anti-accident touch function, and has TÜV Rheinland certified smart eye protection 3.0.
In the imaging department, it is all Sony. It has a 50 MP 1/1.953” Sony IMX882 main camera with OIS and an 8 MP 1/4” Sony IMX355 112° super wide-angle. Meanwhile, the front is outfitted with a 32 MP 1/2.74” Sony IMX615 sensor camera.
And then there’s the AI which the device features an AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content) removal tool/eraser, as well as an AI summary function for writing essays.
Cooling is also a big part of this new Realme device. Speaking of which, it has no less than 9 layers of heat dissipation solution, totaling 36,361 mm2 area. Realme said the heat dissipation solution, dubbed “Ice Core” 3-dimensional cooling system,” on the GT Neo6 SE can effectively lower the temperature by 20°C (68° Fahrenheit). Included in the 9-layer is a dual-layer vapor chamber heat dissipation architecture offering a 10,014 mm2 area.
Other notable specs include smart IR remote, omnidirectional sensing enhanced version NFC, IP65 rated for dust and water resistance, Hi-Res certified audio, dual speakers, dual nano SIM, an ultra-narrow bezel (1.36-1.954 mm), a Type C port, dual-band GPS Beidou positioning (along with the usual suspects of positioning), the garden variety of sensors that also include light sensors front and back, a SUPERVOOC S battery management chip, and a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 100 W fast charging featuring GaN technology.
In case anyone’s wondering, the device isn’t thin but it is fairly lightweight. It measures 162 mm x 75.1 mm x 8.65 mm and tips the scales at 191g (6.74 ounces).
The new Realme GT Neo6 SE is available to buy in China in a choice of 8+256, 12+256, 16+256, and 16+512, with a starting price of 1,699 yuan [CH] (around US$235).
