If the Renault R5 was what started your love for Renault like it did for me, then you got to love what the French automaker has done. It has revealed a Renault 5 Prototype, an electric mobility with design cues inspired by the world-renowned cult model, the R5.

The design influence from the original 5 is unmistakable. The familiar silhouette is present, but modernized. Though I thought the Renault 5 Prototype is tad thicker at the waist. Its a little more plump. The iconic square-off design has been replaced with, well, some curves.
However, many styling elements from the original has made its way onto the Prototype, but a twist. For example, the hood air intake now hides the charging hatch while the fog lights in the lower front bumper are daytime running lights.

The Renault 5 Prototype is a five-door electric supermini, but it looked like a three-door hatch – thanks to the neatly integrated rear doors that has handles hidden in the C-pillar. It has large flared wheel arches which are an obvious homage to the Turbo variant of the original Renault 5 which was homologated for world rally championship.
At this point, this is so much we know about this new 5. It is called a prototype because, it is supposed to be a close to production example. And oh, we heard it will have an affordable price.
