RMA (Rogue Music Alliance) has announced a new Prince Rogers Nelson’s music in honor of the one year anniversary passing of the legendary pop icon Prince. Seriously, I am not sure ‘honor’ is the right word. I am guessing commemorate or remembrance will be a better word. Anyways, the six-track EP, entitled DELIVERANCE, features new and undiscovered studio recordings made between 2006 and 2008, and includes the title track Deliverance, Man Opera, which includes a four-movement medley I Am, Touch Me, Sunrise Sunset, No One Else, plus an extended version of I Am.
Those who have been following Prince would have know that the man was a music renegade of sort who was infuriated with the unjust in music industry (particularly with major recording labels) and it was during his time as an independent artist, he wrote the tracks you will hear on DELIVERANCE. This also brings us to why this remembrance music is released independently via RMA, a Vancouver, WA-based record company. Anywho, according to the official press text, Prince collaborated with Ian Boxill on these tracks which started in 2006 and after Prince’s passing, Boxill continued the work to complete the 6-track EP. Here are some words from Boxill regarding this EP:
“I believe ‘Deliverance’ is a timely release with everything going on in the world today, and in light of the one-year anniversary of his passing. I hope when people hear Prince singing these songs it will bring comfort to many. Prince once told me that he would go to bed every night thinking of ways to bypass major labels and get his music directly to the public. When considering how to release this important work, we decided to go independent because that’s what Prince would have wanted.”
Majority of the sales of Prince DELIVERANCE EP will goes towards Prince’s estate. Prince DELIVERANCE EP is set to be available starting April 21 on iTunes ($3.99) and Apple Music. Pre-order has already started on iTunes, Google Play, as well as Amazon (EP disc version/$5.34). The EP will also be released in stateside on June 2 and available through Walmart, Target and other major brick and mortar stores.
