If there’s one national mint that proves it can keep with what’s trending and maintaining innovations, it would be the Royal Canadian Mint. Not only it has consistently dished out innovative coins, but the national mint of the country up north of the U.S. is always ready to jump on what’s new bandwagon and this includes issuing of commemorative coins to mark the release of the seventh Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, the epic DC Comics/Warner Bros blockbuster, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and even for Frozen, Disney’s surprised hit animated flick. And now, it has Star Trek covered too with the launch of the Star Trek 50th Anniversary Coins.
All told, Royal Canadian Mint is offering six collections, namely, 1 oz. Pure Silver Colored Coin – Star Trek Enterprise, Star Trek Stamp and Coin Set, $20 for $20 Fine Silver Coin – Star Trek Enterprise, 1/2 oz. Pure Silver Colored 4-Coin Subscription – Star Trek Crew, 1 oz. Pure Silver Colored 3-Coin Subscription – iconic Star Trek Scenes, and a $200 Pure Gold Coin – Star Trek: Delta Coin that, as the product name suggests, is shaped in the iconic asymmetrical, arrowhead-shaped Star Trek emblem (it is the world’s first delta-shaped coin, btw).
The special commemorative coins was announced last month on the 12th and the $10 colored silver coin featuring Captain James T. Kirk was unveiled by the actor himself, Canadian-born William Shatner alongside Mint President and CEO Sandra Hanington at an event hosted by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Prices start at $20 Canadian dollars for the $20 for $20 Fine Silver Coin – Star Trek: Enterprise and runs up to a cool $1,299.95 CAD for the $200 Pure Gold Coin – Star Trek: Delta Coin.
Unfortunately, it appears the the latter has already sold out, while the rest of the collection is still available for purchase or pre-order through Royal Canadian Mint online store as well as brick-and-mortar stores in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver. They are also available from Mint’s dealers and distributors, such as participating Canada Post outlets. Also, it is worthy to mention that each collection is offered in limited numbers and hence, if you want them, you will have to act fast.
