The animated film is the first of three movies based on Hathaway’s Flash, a series of novels created and written by original Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. So, no, Netflix did not pick this up from a warehouse sale. This movie is spanking new.
It was originally set to release last July, but COVID-19 ruined the release. Anywho, the movie was released in Japan last week (June 11). According to Fandom, the film will be available to non-Japanese audiences on Netflix on July 1, 2021.
Official description of the movie:
“After Char’s rebellion, Hathaway Noa leads an insurgency against Earth Federation, but meeting an enemy officer and a mysterious woman alters his fate.”
