before you actually plunk down your hard-earned dough for a curved TV, why not treat yourself to a smaller scale curve display first? no kidding and that curved display we are talking about is found on the Samsung GALAXY ROUND Smartphone, which not surprisingly, snags the crown of the world’s first curved display smartphone – and round has nothing to do with its shape, and yes, it is really curved. all thanks to the 5.7″ Full HD Super Flexible AMOLED display which allows Sammy to create this handset with not much real world purpose, except maybe for a more reassuring grip. actually there are some, albeit odd, features to go with it, like for example, ‘Roll Effect’ that allows you to quickly check information such as date, time, missed call and battery status when the screen is on standby by tilting (depressing the device to one side. it is kind of hard to explain how this ‘Roll Effect’ works, so we shall let the video after the break do the talking instead.

being a Samsung handset, expect a tweaked Touchwiz that should let you take advantage of the curved display’s new found ‘roll’ functionality. also in order are 2.3GHz quad-core chip from Qualcomm, 3GB of system RAM, 32GB on internal storage, microSD expansion slot (support up to 64GB), a 12MP AF main shooter and 2MP front-facing item, a 2,800 mAh battery, WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, support for WiFi Direct, plus the usual slew of sensors that makes today’s smartphone ticks. launching in Korea, initially in Luxury Brown, with a price tag of about 1 million Won (roughly about US$930). though no specific date was offered, but not that it matters unless you have pals residing in South Korea. that said, worldwide availability also a mystery for now. hit the jump for a few official press images and of course, a video of the ‘Roll Effect’ in action.
