Segway Xyber Electric Bike

At a glance, you may mistake the Segway Xyber for a dirt bike. It is not. That’s the very thing that draws us to it. First launched at CES 2025 earlier this year, the Segway Xyber is Segway’s take on an e-bike. It resembles a cross between a dirt bike and a fat bike, with a hint of café racer, but that’s just the aesthetic.

At its heart, it is a smart e-bike that’s raring to go where no legs alone could—at least not with pedaling—all while looking super cool. It is perfect for those who love to kick up some dirt on the trails without the need for a motorcycle license.

Segway calls it “an icon in the making,” and for once, that’s not an exaggeration. The Xyber is a mid-range light electric vehicle (LEV) that doesn’t know how to take things slow. Twist the throttle in Race Mode and it’ll go from 0–20 mph (0–32 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds, courtesy of a torquey 175 Nm, 6,000 W direct-drive motor. It’s not just quick—it’s built to last, offering up to 112 miles (180 km) of range with its 2,880 Wh dual-battery setup, or 56 miles (90 km) on a single battery.

Despite its futuristic, moto-inspired look and cast-aluminum double-cradle frame, the Xyber actually has pedals—twelve levels of pedal assist, to be exact—plus three throttle-only modes: Eco, Sport, and Race. That makes it part bicycle, part beast. For suspension, it gets coil-sprung, hydraulically damped front and rear setups, with a moto-style inverted dual-crown fork offering 110 mm of travel at the front and a swingarm providing 100 mm at the back.

When it’s time to stop, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes handle the job (four-piston front, two-piston rear), clamping onto massive 20 x 5.0-inch (51 x 12.7 cm) multi-surface tires with flat-resistant inserts. A 2.4-inch TFT multi-function display keeps you updated on ride data and navigation, while a 1,300-lumen automatic headlight lights your way. There’s even Apple Find My integration, GPS, AirLock, and full IoT connectivity—because why shouldn’t your e-bike be smarter than your car?

Other niceties include 12 levels of adaptive pedal assist, a USB charging port, intelligent lighting, and a multi-function scroll wheel. It’s UL 2272 certified, IPX7 water-resistant, and its battery can recharge in about 4 hours. The Xyber weighs around 146 lbs (66 kg) and supports up to 408 lbs (185 kg), with a cast-aluminum frame that looks more ready for motocross than a bike path.

One catch, though: this thing is too wild for the streets. The Xyber doesn’t currently meet e-bike class regulations and isn’t street legal—but a Class 2-compliant version is expected in late spring or early summer 2025.

The Segway Xyber was launched for US$3,299.99 MSRP, but the good news is, it can be had now for just US$2,899.99. For something that accelerates faster than some cars, that’s not a bad deal for an “e-bike.” *wink, wink*
