Not only will the Shin Evangelion film will be on physical media money can buy but there are books too for fans to pore over the visuals relating to Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.
The book is entitled Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Animation Original Picture Collection and it has two volumes. Volume 1 was announced back in June and available since July, and Volume 2 was revealed in September and it is slated to be available in November.
Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Animation Original Picture Collection Volume 1 (ISBN: 978-4-905033-26-4) has 352 pages dedicated to the first half of the anime movie, featuring original drawings and layouts of scenes like the battle in Paris as well as Shinji’s life in the Third Village presented in full color.
Some timing sheets from the animation are also included. The cover of Volume features a hand-drawn illustration by Atushi Nishigori and on the back cover are key characters from Third Village, including Shinji, Kensuke, and Toji.
Meanwhile, Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Animation Original Picture Collection Volume 2 (ISBN: 978-4-905033-27-1), which also packs 352 pages, is dedicated to the second half of the movie.
Like the first volume, this book is an art appreciator’s wet dream. It features tons of drawings, both original and modified (remember the 1.01?), the original layout and the corrected layout, as well as part of the time sheet. Mari’s Unit 08 is featured in this volume, along with the final scene at Ube-Shinkawa Station.
The Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Animation Original Picture Collection Volume 1 is available from the Evangelion store on Yahoo! Japan and Amazon Japan for 4,070 yen.
Meanwhile, the Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Animation Original Picture Collection Volume 2 is available for pre-order on Eva Store on Yahoo! Japan and Amazon Japan also for 4,070 yen (roughly US$28).
