In the world of modded cars, there’s the “sleeper car”—a performance monster wrapped in an unassuming exterior. Over in PC land, we have the sleeper PC: powerful guts disguised in retro beige. But building one usually involves scouring eBay for ancient towers and a whole lot of Dremel work. Not with the SilverStone FLP01 Retro HTPC Case.

SilverStone has done what every nostalgic PC builder dreams of—they’ve made a brand-new case that looks like it crawled out of a 90s office, but is packed with modern sensibilities. Inspired by classics like the NEC PC-9800 series, this box screams old-school, right down to its fake floppy drive cover, but it’s ready for today’s monster builds.
Don’t let the beige fool you. The FLP01 supports everything from Mini-ITX to full-sized SSI-CEB motherboards, and has room for a GPU up to 309 mm long and 133 mm wide. Storage expansion? You’ve got support for 5.25”, 3.5”, and 2.5” drives, with a universal cage that makes it all work. Cooling is sorted too—it can take up to six fans, and ships with one 120 mm pre-installed. There’s also room for CPU coolers up to 88 mm, or 138 mm if you remove the optical drive bay.
Up front, you get two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C, and a combo audio jack—all tucked behind a clean, sliding panel that keeps the sleeper vibes strong. It measures 17.32 inches wide, 6.69 inches tall, and 14.25 inches deep, with an internal volume of 27 liters and a reasonable weight of 4.46 kg.
The SilverStone FLP01 launched in January 2025 and is available now, starting at around US$148, depending on the retailer. So, whether you’re a retro PC builder, an HTPC enthusiast, or someone who just really misses beige, SilverStone’s got your back—and your motherboard.
But if a Home Theater PC case or a horizontal PC case isn’t your cuppa, you might want to hold on to your wallet and wait for the late-80s style tower PC case. It comes in all its beige glory, of course, with not one, not two, but three faux 5 1/4-inch floppy drives, a retro-accurate power button, and all the works. It’s set to arrive later this year for 220 bucks. We’ll share more info on this blog as soon as we get it.
