In what could be the weirdest news in the world of sweet confectionery… Skittles, a Mars brand under Wrigley Company, has introduced a new kind of Skittles that is, well, destined to be hot, and when we say ‘hot’, do we mean ‘spicy’. Yup. You heard that right. Spicy Skittles and Starburst are a thing now, and they are aptly called Skittles and Starburst Sweet Heat. So, those with a sweet tooth and the penchant for spicy treats (how does that even work???), do take note because this may go down well with your unique taste buds. Or maybe not.
Skittles and Starburst Sweet Heat was unveiled along with over thirty other new products from Mars Chocolate North America and Wrigley Company this week at the Confectioners Association’s Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, and yes, that is also a thing. And it shouldn’t be a surprise since pizza convention is a thing too. There’s simply no convention that’s too weird.
Slated to be available starting December 2017, Skittles and Starburst Sweet Heat is described as “fruity flavours with a spicy kick,” and it will be offered in a variety of packs, including Skittles Single Pack, Share Size Pack, Laydown Bag and Medium Stand Up Pouch, as well as Starburst Single Pack and Laydown Bag. Prices start at a modest 99 cents and run up to US$3.19 for the laydown bag. Man, I still cannot imagine how sweet and spicy Skittles are going to taste. My best guess is it will be weird, very, very weird.
Spicy sweets are definitely on trend at #sse17. Check out this Sweet Heat flavour from #skittles https://t.co/j1mARB9nEg pic.twitter.com/2Wv07UyPVp
