Unlike in the 50s, these days when we’re out and about, we may need to write, cut, screw/unscrew, or—God forbid—break a glass to escape a dire situation. What can I say? The life of modern folks ain’t easy. Fortunately, there’s a tool to handle all of that, and then some. Folks, this is the SlashPen by Malboro & Kane, a mini ink pen that comes with some unexpected perks.

The SlashPen not only lets you write when inspiration strikes (or just sign something in real life, ’cos let’s face it, you’re no J.K. Rowling), it also cuts, screws/unscrews stuff, and breaks glass too. It’s armed with a razor-sharp 65HRC+ tungsten knife-slash-blade, which, despite its name, is not to bring out the Michael Myers in you.
The newly upgraded 15° knife-edge blade, with thinness akin to a high-end kitchen knife combined with the razor sharpness of tungsten, lets you shave wood, unbox, and whatnot with ease.
Meanwhile, in the writing department, it’s a full-size pen in an unexpectedly small form. What that means is: refills are easy to acquire. I know what you’re thinking— isn’t having a sharp object on the flip side of a pen kinda dangerous? Yes, there are risks. You know, like the cap popping off while you furiously pen your next masterpiece in the middle of Central Park.

Fortunately, that won’t happen with the SlashPen, thanks to the internal silicone sloped washer. This bad boy stays locked tight until you need it—and when you do, it requires a purposeful twist to open. The same goes when you are busy slashing because the pen side also has a silicone washer to keep the cap securely capped.
Interestingly, it has not one but two key loops. Why, you ask? Well, because one loop has a Philips screw head, and the other has a glass breaker, so you can choose which one’s your quickdraw. Other notables include a knurled mid grip to aid in opening either cap, a pure metal build with no coatings, and a full-size handle for maximum leverage, be it for writing, screwing, cutting, or breaking glass.
The SlashPen by Malboro & Kane is available in brass or titanium. You can pre-order one from Kickstarter for £25 or more (about US$34, according to Kickstarter). The campaign has already met its funding goal, so yes, the product is a go—and all that’s left is for Malboro & Kane to fulfill the pledges when the campaign ends. Delivery is expected in December 2025.
